Steam and heat-transfer oil can both support underwater pelletizing. The correct choice depends on the existing line, available utilities, process temperature and control requirements.
A heated pelletizer die plate must keep melt channels and die holes within a stable operating temperature range. Steam heating and heat-transfer-oil heating are both used in underwater pelletizing, but they are not interchangeable spare-part details. The die plate, piping, seals, pressure capability, insulation and control strategy must all match the heating medium used by the line.
Steam-Heated Die Plates
Steam heating can provide responsive heat transfer when the pelletizer and plant utilities are designed for it. The plate, seals, internal channels and interfaces need to be suitable for the system pressure and temperature. For applicable designs, JINFENG can support steam heating up to 6 MPa. The correct specification still depends on the actual equipment and operating conditions, including start-up behavior and utility stability.
Oil-Heated Die Plates
Heat-transfer-oil systems are selected where a particular temperature range or control arrangement is needed. The die plate must be compatible with the oil circuit, temperature range and insulation design. For applicable designs, JINFENG can support heat-transfer-oil conditions up to 300 C. Stable circulation and practical access to heating interfaces remain important for service.
What to Compare Before Changing Heating Method
- Heating uniformity across the working die face
- Available steam pressure or oil temperature and circulation capacity
- Seal design, leakage history and service access
- Control response during start-up and resin-grade changes
- Existing utility piping, insulation and pelletizer interfaces
Uneven heating can change melt flow at different holes. The result can be unstable cutting, inconsistent pellet shape or persistent local blockage. A change in heating medium should therefore be engineered as a system change, not only as a new plate selection.

Can a steam-heated plate be replaced with an oil-heated plate?
Only after the complete pelletizer utility and heating design have been reviewed. The heating medium is part of the system design.
